Coach Joe grew up in
northern California, where he swam with the Santa Rosa Neptunes for
12 years. While with the Neptunes, Joe qualified for the Junior
Nationals and made the finals in the 200 back. Joe attended Denison
University in Granville, Ohio. He was a member of the swim team and
a Division III NCAA qualifier and finalist for all of his four
years at Denison, and served as team captain his senior year. Joe
graduated with a B.A. in economics and a minor in psychology. After
toiling for four years as a bond trader in San Francisco, Joe
embarked on an extended tour of the world, visiting three
continents before moving to Hawaii in August 2004. Joe joined
the PAQ coaching staff in 2004 and in September 2008 he became the
Head Coach. Joe has been teaching social studies at
Farrington High School since 2006. He is proud to have restarted
their dormant swimming program after 10 years of inactivity. You'll
see Joe competing at the open water swims across the island. He
enjoys surfing, hiking, traveling, running, cycling and most of all
coaching swimming! In July 2010 Coach Joe led PAQ to their best
finish in years at the Hawaiian State Swimming championships, and
he looks forward to even better things to come for the team and PAQ

Yan Chen
Gold/Junior Coach

Coach Yan hails from
China, where she was on the Chinese National Swim Team from
1994-2002. Yan is a two-time Olympian, having represented China at
the Olympics in the 1996 Games in Atlanta and the 2000 Games in
Sydney. In the 1996 Olympics, at age 15, she was a member of the
400 medley relay team that won the bronze medal, and a
semi-finalist in the 200 back and 400 IM. A year later, she broke
the World Record in the 400 IM at the Chinese National Games -- a
record she held until the 2000 Olympics. Coach Yan started college
in China and transferred to UH Manoa in 2002 as a sophomore. She
earned her BS in 3 years, and swam on an Athlete Full Scholarship.
During each of her three years at UHM, she was a Student
Athlete-Scholar, Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Student
Athlete-Scholar, Western Athletic Conference Champion and an NCAA
Academic All-American. Coach Yan has many years of coaching
experience both in China and in Hawaii. She has completed a
Master's degree at UH and has been working in recreation
management. She joined the PAQ staff in 2008, and currently coaches
the Gold and Junior groups.

John Benjamin Douglass

Coach Ben Douglass grew up in Marietta, Ohio
where he began swimming at age 6 for the Marietta Marlins swim team
and later became an All-State competitor for the Marietta High
School tiger swim team, specializing in the breaststroke and I.M.
events. Following high school, Ben attended Denison University in
Granville, Ohio where he obtained a B.A. in Cinema and swam all
four years: qualifying for NCAA Div. III nationals four times and
achieving All-American status 13 times. Immediately following
college graduation in the spring of 2003, Ben relocated to Honolulu
to teach swimming for Punahou's Summer Sports program which quickly
led to coaching a group of young Punahou Aquatics swimmers mid-way
through the summer. One year later, Ben took over as the head coach
of PAQ where he enjoyed witnessing the successes of hundreds of PAQ
swimmers over the next four years until the fall of 2008 when he
passed the job off to friend and former teammate, Coach Joe Glenn.
During this time, Ben also worked for the DOE as a teaching
assistant for kindergarten students at Linapuni Elementary School
in Kalihi. Since the fall of 2007, Ben has worked in the Video
Production Department at Punahou School where he is now a full-time
video editor. During the yearlong hiatus from club swimming, Ben
and his wife welcomed the birth of their daughter, Mayumi, in
December of 2008. Coach Ben returned to coaching the Silver group
in September 2009. In addition to caring for his daughter and
swimming, Coach Ben has a passion for surfing, photography, folk
music, and Beatles Rock Band.

Chuck Riggs
Varsity I Coach

Chuck Riggs enters his first year with PAQ's Varsity I group
with 40 years of coaching experience under his belt. He comes in
after having spent 26 years as the Founder, Head Coach and Chief
Executive of the community-based Redlands Swim Team in Redlands,
Calif. Riggs has coached numerous high school and college
All-Americans and USS National Finalists. He placed two swimmers on
the USA Pan Am teams, coached a world and American record holder,
coached a NCAA D-I champion, was an international coach for USA
Teams in 1975, 1981 and 2000 and also was a member of the Southern
California Swimming Board of Directors for 25 years. He also
received the Phillips award from Southern California Swimming in
2001.
In 2008, Riggs was named Southern California Kevin Perry Coach
of the Year after his men’s team took Junior National
Champions. That year, Riggs was the first in the nation to coach
two high school swimmers in breaking 20 seconds in the 50 free in
the same high school championship meet. He was a featured speaker
at the ASCA clinic on distance swimming in 1978. Riggs taught
at the Jurupa Unified School District as a secondary teacher from
1971-2008. There, he taught various subjects such as English,
philosophy, history, physical education and also worked as a budget
coordinator. Additionally, he served as the head swimming coach for
18 years. Prior to founding the Redlands Swim Team, Riggs served as
the head coach for the Riverside Aquatics Association. He also
coached two junior college All-American divers at Pasadena City
College and was the head men’s and women’s swimming and
diving coach at the University of California Riverside for a brief
period of time.
Riggs earned degrees in Master of Arts from Azusa Pacific
University, Bachelor of Arts from California State University at
Los Angles, and General Educational from Riverside Community
College. In college, he was an All-American in 3-meter diving for
California State University, Los Angles and a junior college
All-American in both 3-meter and 1-meter diving at Riverside
Community College. Riggs is married to his wife Joan, they have
four daughters and five grandchildren. He is very excited to be
coaching the PAQ Varsity I swimmers and looks forward to
helping the swimmers reach their highest goals.

Savannah Marie Tatreau
Blue/Varsity II Coach

Coach Savannah grew up in the Central Coast area of California,
where she swam with the Paso Robles North County Aquatics club swim
team for 9 years. While with NCA, Savannah qualified and placed in
multiple Junior Olympic Swimming Championship and California Senior
Championship meets. Savannah also swam for the Atascadero High
School swim team during her senior year, and placed 8th in the
women’s 100 butterfly at the Southern Sectional CIF State
Championship in 2007. After high school, Savannah attended San
Diego State University where she swam with the lady Aztec team for
a short period of time. After 2 years of studying psychology
at SDSU, Savannah decided to change her career path and moved back
to her home town for a year to pursue an education in fashion
design. While studying fashion design at Cuesta College, she
decided to join the school swim team and compete at a lower level
of competitive swimming. In 2010, after finishing one year at
Cuesta College, Savannah decided to transfer to the University of
Hawaii at Manoa, where she is still working on obtaining her
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising.
Savannah joined the PAQ coaching staff in October of 2011 as a swim
instructor for PASS, and now coaches the Varsity and Blue groups.
Outside of school and coaching, Savannah enjoys running, hiking,
playing beach volleyball, music, and shopping.

Ashley E Cambe

During her high school years Ashley ran cross
country, played waterpolo and swam for Coach Joe at PAQ.
At 18 years old, she became certified as a USA Swimming swim
coach and started as an assistant coach for Blue
group. Ashley also teaches PASS (Punahou Aquatics
Swim School) on the side and manages the PAQ
office. She is currently majoring in accounting at
Hawaii Pacific University. In addition
to PAQ, Ashley also works at the Attorney General's
office and lifeguards at a local pool.

Victoria West
PASS Coach
Email
Coach Vicky West comes to Punahou Aquatics from Redlands,
California by way of Swim Kauai Aquatics. Previously, Vicky served
as head age group and developmental coach with the Palm Springs
Piranhas. In 2010, she was awarded ASCA Age Group Coach of the
Year, an honor chosen by her peers in Southern California Swimming.
Prior to Palm Springs, Vicky Coached the 10 and Under Group with
Redlands Swim Team taking the number of Junior Olympic Qualifiers
from 6 to 20 in one year. Additionally, Vicky coached for
both of the local high school teams in Redlands working with
several CIF qualifiers. As a swimmer, Coach Vicky joins the Swim
Kauai Aquatics staff as a former NCAA Division I swimmer. She
attended the Northwestern University, where she majored in
Psychology and competed primarily in distance freestyle and IM.
Coach Vicky was Big Ten champion and former school record holder in
the 1650 freestyle. She also qualified for the Olympic trials in
1996, 2000, and 2004, was a member of the USA National Junior Team
and Open Water Teams, and was a 3 time Junior National
Champion. Coach Vicky also has her masters degree in
Kinesiology with a focus in Sport and Event Management from
California State University Long Beach. Currently, Coach
Vicky enjoys participating in the numerous Open Water Races Oahu
has to offer.

Bill Bauer
Seasonal Coach

Coach Bill has been the
Head Coach of the Marietta Ohio Marlins, now associated with the
Cincinnati Ohio Marlins, for over 25 years. He is a former
classroom teacher, principal and current Professor in the Education
program at Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio. He holds a BS in
Special Education and MS in Special Education Administration (Ohio
University) and an MS degree in Counseling and a PhD in
Rehabilitation Counseling (The Ohio State University). His coaching
accomplishments include ASCA level 4 recognition having produced
several YMCA Zones swimmers, National qualifiers, and a National
Champion. In 1988, he coached the USA team of age groupers who
traveled to Holland and swam against Holland, Belgium, Germany,
France, and Spain. Many of his swimmers have gone on to swim in
various collegiate institutions including but not limited to:
Purdue University, Ohio University, Denison University, Air Force
Academy, University of Dayton, Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster, Ohio
Northern, Mt. Union, Miami of Ohio, and Eastern Michigan. Several
swimmers were ranked National Top 16 Y and USS swimmers. He claims
4 YMCA Great Lakes Zone Paul Atkinson Swimmers of the Year
including Ben Douglass (Denison University Swim team captain and
coach at PAQ). Coach Bill also been the Head Coach of Marietta High
School Swim Team. He has volunteered as an Assistant Coach at both
Ohio University (under Scott Hammond, Head Coach) and The Ohio
State University (Bill Wadley, Head Coach). Since 2006, Coach Bill
has traveled to Honolulu to be a seasonal assistant coach at PAQ
for summer and winter breaks and teach at the Punahou School Summer
Swim School.
